BIOGRAPHY

Jaya Prada (b. 1962-04-03), also spelled Jaya Prada, born Lalita Rani) is a film actress in the Tollywood and Bollywood film industries.

She was born in the historical town of Rajahmundry in Andhrapradesh. She started her career in film industry after dropping out of Kandukuri Rajyalakshmi Women's College. Her mother tongue is Telugu.

She started her career with the Telugu film 'Devude Digivaste' but shot into stardom with NTR starrer "Adavi Ramudu". The famous song 'Aaresuko boyi paresukunnanu' is still a great tune with the telugu cinegoers.

Jayaprada is remembered for it as much as she is remembered for her roles in K.Balachander's Antuleni Katha, K. Viswanath's Sagarasangamam and Sirisiri Muvva.

Her first film in Tamil was 'Ninaithaale Inikkum' with Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth.

She entered into Bollywood with Sargam in 1979. She acted in many movies in Hindi and earned fame over there. During the 80s Jayaprada had a successful film couple pairing with actors such as Jeetendra and Amitabh Bachchan. She endeared audiences with her sincere portrayal of Amitabh Bachchan's girlfriend in her next favorite film "Sharabi" (1984), which became another big hit and earned her second Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. She churned out a number of masala tear jerkers that portrayed her in film after film as the tough, dutiful and all-enduring wife. These films endeared Jayapradha to the traditional conservative section of filmgoers. It was an image that would serve her well when she started a new career as a politician.

She received the compliments from The great Indian Director Satyajit Ray as the most beautiful face on Indian Screen and she really is. She had a very beautiful and aristocratic looks compared to any other Indian actress of her time or before. No wonder she got the title Beauty Queen in Telugu films.

She married Producer Srikanth Nahata. Entered into politics by joining Telugu Desam party floated by NTR. She was nominated to be an MP in Rajyasabha by TDP party. Following differences with party Supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu, she left TDP to join SP and contested from Rampur parliamentary Constituency in UP during the last General election in 2004.
